Have you ever wondered what exclusive privacy feels like?

Hidden between the beaches of Malibu and the city’s freeways, in the solitude of the picturesque Santa Monica mountains, is the secluded world of Monte Nido. Nowhere will you find more of nature’s beauty and tranquility than in this small, private enclave. In this world where the indigenous trees paint the changing of the seasons, you’ll find the pace of life slower; the air you breathe fresher; and a quality of life suited to those desiring a break from the constant rush of city living. Welcome to 25919 Dark Creek Road.

Beyond the security gates and guard shack, the 5-acre Dark Creek compound provides a totally private and sheltered environment of waterfalls and streams; a koi-pond; 2 multi-purpose guest houses; cloistered terraces; and a private meditation room displaying a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains.  And at the heart of all this beauty sits the magnificently rebuilt and expanded main residence.

Marrying the charm of Santa Barbara design with classical Tuscan nuances, the residence has been meticulously redesigned and constructed by architect Larry Brisley and designer Joni Koenig to include a wealth of custom craftsmanship; each element subtly lending to the home’s warm and inviting aura. Touches that include hand distressed ironworks by Steven Handelman Studios; richly oiled hand-hewn walnut wood flooring in tandem with antique terra cotta tile flooring created from 19th century French stables; and a variety of exquisitely crafted hand-painted tiles.

Within the 10,000 square feet of living space, the three-level residence allows for a wide variety of lifestyles.  For evenings of extravagant entertaining, there is the grand living room and adjacent formal dining area. Like much of the home, the living room’s high ceiling is accented with hand-hewn poplar beams, and the custom designed fireplaces found in both rooms feature hand carved Italian limestone mantles, finished with antique Belgian firebrick.

Another highlight of the main floor is the two-level library. A bibliophile’s dream, this room is reminiscent of the magnificent formal libraries found in turn-of-the century estates, and offers an abundance of rich alder shelving complete with map drawers; fireplace with Italian limestone mantle; and a connecting double helix walnut staircase that leads you to the library’s second-level. There, a hand distressed wrought iron railing wraps the room while additional bookcases line the walls.  It is then finished with a snowflake-design wood beamed ceiling that showcases a beautifully crafted iron chandelier.

Or for additional entertainment and relaxation you can indulge yourself in the home’s 12 seat movie theater complete with a custom designed alder bar; fabric panel walls to provide for acoustical perfection; plush carpeting; and leather motion seating.

On the upper floor, down a hallway lined with hand forged sconces, carved Mahogany doors open to the master bedroom suite. There, a world of extraordinary comfort is yours. The room was carefully crafted to breathe in the scenic magnificence of the outdoors through a wealth of windows, along with a private terrace that allows for easy access to the nearby sparkling pool and spa. For your wardrobe, the suite’s spacious designer closets provide built-in hampers, jewelry storage, tie racks, and pull out shoe and shirt storage.

The room’s elegant dual-master baths have been created with an abundance of exquisitely painted tiles, imported stone, oil rubbed bronze fixtures, and custom carved wood cabinetry. And if you’re in the mood for a little self indulgence, the roomy steam showers and whirlpool tub are a perfect place to luxuriate and unwind.
